Poke has been around for centuries as a Hawaiian staple. It’s seasoned and cubed raw fish, typically as a “poke bowl” over rice with various toppings – think of it as deconstructed sushi!
Poke bowls have become super trendy as restaurants on the mainland have added them to menus. It’s no wonder – they’re flavorful, healthy, and endlessly customizable. We decided to try some DIY poke with a few of our Taco Simmer Sauces – Korean BBQ and Thai Chili flavors – they worked perfectly to marinate the fish! So easy, too!
You will need high-quality, sashimi-grade fish. Be kind to the earth and choose sustainable wild caught fish, please! We tested with tuna and salmon.
Vegetarian? Tofu works just as well!
now the fun part - build your bowl!
For the best balance of texture and flavor, you’ll want to choose one component from at least three of these categories. But don’t stop there! Feel free to add on whatever else sounds tasty!
radish-watermelon or daikon
crushed wasabi peas
grated serrano chiles
thinly sliced red chiles
thinly sliced jalapenos
(or mix our Thai Chili
sauce with mayo!)
